It’s National Condom Week!  About half of sexually active adults will get an STD before their 25th birthday. Using condoms every time you have sex is the best way to prevent this from happening.  Talk to your partner about this important topic TODAY!

Today’s Fact Friday gives us the stats on condoms. We know that condoms can be 98% effective in preventing pregnancy and very effective against STDs and HIV, but did you know that condoms are actually designed to increase pleasure?
Did you notice that the “excuses” women and men make for not using condoms are different? It might be because women and men are expected to act in different ways. They might even feel pressure to only act in these ways. So while we agree these aren’t reasons someone shouldn’t use a condom, let’s be honest we could call them “Pressures women and men face when trying to USE a condom!”
If you feel pressure to not use a condom, stop and think. Why do we need to fit those expectations anyway? And why should I put my health at risk just to conform to gender roles?

Check out this animated short called the Road to Equality, which lets us see things from the perspective of a teen caught in cycles of violence. By claiming the right to be treated with respect and as an equal, our narrator is able to imagine new possibilities for their own relationships.

This film was created by the Peer Advocates of Planned Parenthood Los Angeles and imMEDIAte Justice Productions. Like, reblog, and share this post to amplify the voices of our Peer Advocate filmmakers!
